Standup Is Stupid
.
- hnthrowaway0315 4y agoYeah it's boring. I don't care what others are working on most of the time so I just ignore them. Sometimes you get someone who wants to thumb up and show face and play games in standup which is the worst of kind.
- yuppie_scum 4y ago30 mins is too long. Should be no longer than 15. Split the standup team up or put people on a pitch clock.
- AnimalMuppet 4y agoAbsolutely. OP seems to have removed their rant, and I can't go back and see the details. Was he/she the leader of the team? If so, that person should change the way the standups are run. But even if they aren't the team leader... if you're doing standups, you're (at least in theory) doing some kind of agile approach. But agile is not a rigid process. ("We're going to be agile according to this rigidly defined process" is an oxymoron.) You're team's process is stupid? Change it. (Which you can't directly do, if you're not the one running the team. You're going to have to sell it to whoever is running the team.)

- PaulHoule 4y agoMaybe it's my neurodivergence but I'm in much better shape to talk about what I did today and what I plan to do tomorrow at the end of the day (when it is fresh in my mind) as opposed to talk about what I did yesterday and plan to do today (when I've been thinking about everything else for 16 hours.) This goes double when it's a written standup on Slack because when I get in in the morning I can look at my notes to know exactly what my goal is! I realized one day I could write my comment at the end of the day and it would appear as the first one when everybody wrote theirs the next day and nobody has ever complained.
- pipeline_peak 4y agoIt really depends on how much teams need to communicate with each other. I’d rather talk with my boss and whoever else is needed. You lose a lot of momentum being pulled into a meeting you have no purpose in.
