You Can Spend a Year on a Cruise Ship for Less Than Rent in Many Cities
- deepsun 4y agoI'd rather drive an RV or camper-van. Much more freedom and fun things to do.
- pengaru 4y agoYour fuel costs will be way higher that way because cruise ships burn bunker fuel. If they ever force cruise ships to clean up their act the costs should normalize a bit
- trogdor 4y agoAn overwhelming majority of full-time RVers don't drive that much. When your RV is your house (and not just a way to vacation), there is no rush. Long haul drives are draining, and you pass by tons of interesting places. Among the full-time RVers I know, slow travel is the norm. You spend more time in the places you particularly enjoy, and mosey toward a different place or climate when you decide the time is right. Source: I semi-retired in my early-20s and spent six years full-time RVing.
- listenallyall 4y agoPretty tough to take that to another continent, however.
- zamnos 4y agoMost continents I've seen have plenty of land to explore. Some of them are even connected to each other!
- pxmpxm 4y agoYou should be able to knock out at least two continents no matter where you are :)
- philwelch 4y agoAustralia? Heck, even North and South America are separated by the Darien Gap.
- marymkearney 4y agoCruise ships are trending, maybe not in a good way. Ew. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ruby-princess-cruise-ship-sick-passengers-cdc/ https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ruby-princess-cruise-ship-sick-... https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35023667 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35023667
- cafard 4y agoMany of us who live in cities do so because of our employment. The commute from a cruise ship would cost a lot in time and money, I imagine.
- zubairq 4y agoAlso look at the history of disappearing people on cruiseships: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Snatched-Unforgettable-Martin-M-Nuza-ebook/dp/B0BQCZ1KMN/ref=sr_1_15?crid=17BYEXDOFCJUX&keywords=snatched&qid=1678506481&sprefix=snatched%2Caps%2C111&sr=8-15 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Snatched-Unforgettable-Martin-M-Nuz...
- manv1 4y agoCruise ships are also all-inclusive, in that they provide meals + entertainment + basic medical care. That's hard to beat. Plus there are plenty of potentially interesting people to talk to...and shrimp. Lots of shrimp.
- helf 4y agoSo much shrimp. mouth waters If it weren’t for the fact being sequestered into a limited space with that many random people would make me lose my mind I would consider it.
