Ask HN: What happens if I'm using a OS lib and suddenly the license is changed?
- thesuperbigfrog 4y agoDo the laws where you live allow for retroactive license changes for published software? If not, then the software is licensed under whatever license it was under when the operating system was released.
- pestatije 4y agoI think OS means open source, not operating system
- thesuperbigfrog 4y agoSimilar questions still apply. Do the laws allow for retroactive changes? In most places, probably not. A license agreement is agreed to by both parties. If the terms of the agreement change, neither party is required to "re-agree".
- stevehiehn 4y agoYa sorry, I intended OS to mean `Open Source`
- foldr 4y agoYou're still free to use whatever version you're currently using under the terms of the original license. From an ethical point of view, it's worth thinking about whether you'd like to respect the wishes of the author(s) of the software, even if you are not legally required to. IANAL.
