The upside of Whirlpool/Maytag products beyond warranty is the availability of parts and the willingness of third-party repairmen to work on them. Although dishwashers and clothes washers are a bit of an apples to oranges comparison, we have a LG washing machine and no one wants to work on it because of the scarcity of parts and poor likelihood of successfully repairing the issue. They recommended Whirlpool/Maytag for those reasons so while it might not be a great warranty and hassle to get warranty work done, they still have some major points for consideration.
