Ford Mustang is the next car to lose AM radio
- cf100clunk 4y agoNo idea what Ford is thinking here as AM radio (whether people like it or not) is an essential service, especially in vast areas of Canada where the Mustang will be sold and FM radio signals don't propagate well, if at all. Are they trying to force buyers into satellite subscriptions? Do not want. One possible point of solace for fans of AM stations: if local FM stations in North America are broadcasting in HD Radio they are more than likely also broadcasting the local AM station(s) on subchannels. Again, in vast areas of Canada, FM signals do not propagate, for a variety of reasons related to the immense geographic distances and differences.
- yuppie_scum 4y agoI bet you could buy a portable AM radio that would support a Bluetooth connection to the car.
- cf100clunk 4y agoThat is a tightly focused micro-solution, while I see this as a much bigger concern affecting consumers.
- WirelessGigabit 4y agoThis is insane. Driving throughout the US, there are many places where you are emergency weather broadcasts go via AM. And those places don't have cellular reception. So my Weather app on my iPhone will not be able to warn me. (hell, even if I open the app, it loads the data, I turn on airplane mode, force-close, reopen, it shows me 'Weather unavailable' ...) How much are they saving?
