... Florida House Bill 1467. It requires all schoolbooks to be reviewed by a district employee holding an educational media specialist certificate, to ensure the books are grade level appropriate and free of pornography.
how books with porn got into a childs library I dont know, makes sense you would want to be thorough in reviewing everything.
- kube-system 4y agoIt also requires meetings to be made open to the public so that a mob can come give their uninformed harassment to said specialists. Edit: Just read the bill in full; the only mention of 'pornographic' in the bill is that schools are required to let parents present evidence that a book is pornographic. https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/1467/BillText/er/PDF https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/1467/BillText/er/... > Each district school board must adopt a policy regarding an objection by a parent or a resident of the county to the use of a specific instructional material, which clearly describes a process to handle all objections and provides for resolution. The process must provide the parent or resident the opportunity to proffer evidence to the district school board that: [...] b. Any material used in a classroom, made available in a school library, or included on a reading list contains content that is pornographic It seems to me that the biggest change here is that the state is mandating that media specialists are systematically undermined.
