That tracks; in Japan there’s a 99% conviction rate, so realistically if you get arrested you’re getting convinced. It may not be perfect, but it’s almost certainly better than “catch and release.”
- glandium 4y agoThe conviction rate (closer to 99.9%, btw) is for indicted people, not arrested. A lot of arrested people are released without being indicted. The prosecution rate is below 50% IIRC. Edit: indictment rate is actually closer to 36%, and 16% more have a suspension of indictment (i.e. police think they're guilty, but they're not indicted). 48% are simply released. The 99.9% applies to the 36%.
