Dumb question: Why can't we do this with reactors and repurposed oil rigs out in the middle of the ocean? If it sinks or melts down yeah that sucks, but water is exceptionally good at shielding radiation so just chuck it over a trench and call it a day?
- sph 4y agoDumb answer: salt water is very very corrosive. You don't want to build something expensive and relatively toxic for the environment in the middle of salt water. And then there's the problem of nasty weather which is quite frequent in the middle of the sea.
