- actually_a_dog 4y ago
Hah. I knew what this was before I clicked on it, and still said "whoa!"
- 100pctremote 4y ago
Thank you. Although I never bookmarked that site I've never forgotten it.

Yvette and Ling would be perfect for each other. https://www.lingscars.com/ https://www.lingscars.com/

Lovely website, though I never quite understood why they portray the BMW 8 series saloon as a missile launcher truck. https://www.lingscars.com/personal-car-leasing/bmw/8-series-saloon https://www.lingscars.com/personal-car-leasing/bmw/8-series-...

Damn My Eyes! I was completely mystified by this, until I got to the "Panama City, Florida" part. This is not even the usual indictment of Florida. This captures the general mood of the Panama City Beachfront area.
- a2800276 4y ago
Florida woman! But gotta say, while the site is showing it's age a bit, it has character and Yvette's looks like a fun place.
pveierland 4y ago
Reminded me of Arngren's website - which has quite the inventory - including even a personal VTOL contraption! https://www.arngren.net/ https://www.arngren.net/ https://www.arngren.net/vtol.html https://www.arngren.net/vtol.html

- zoklet-enjoyer 4y ago
Same. Midi file. Music only started playing when I clicked on a link to another page
- blondin 4y ago
yes. i have not seen this in a very long time! it is supposed to play the midi file. in fact, it works on the other pages. but when you have you html wrong, the midi will get downloaded instead. that's what is happening on the index page.
mrsubletbot 4y ago
This is a god-damned masterpiece!
denkmoon 4y ago
The strangest part of all this is why there is a random screenshot of Flight Simulator... Really adds the cherry on top.
- paulgb 4y ago
And some old screenshots of Blender! I’m confused by what they’re doing there but it all does seem to work and I love it.
- brianpan 4y ago
The flight simulator is the strangest thing? Not the Psychological_Thriller_Horror_Success page about the Salem witch trials, Chimera, Leonardo Da Vinci, and the Easter Bunny? https://yvettesbridalformal.p1r8.net/psychological_thriller_horror_success.html https://yvettesbridalformal.p1r8.net/psychological_thriller_...
  - Nition 4y ago
I'd love to see a map of all the pages on the site. You can dig through so many layers. Here are some photos of a squirrel with some bonus sketches: https://yvettesbridalformal.p1r8.net/oil_portrait_painting_panama_city_squirrel.html https://yvettesbridalformal.p1r8.net/oil_portrait_painting_p...
- mrweasel 4y ago
I think that's the logo of the designer: Dude Otep.
ecshafer 4y ago
This is a great website. It also makes me nostalgic for the old internet, where it was more amateur and novel.

- calderknight 4y ago
http://wiby.me/ http://wiby.me/ is a search engine for finding these sites. You can use the "surprise me" button to be brought to a random page.
Waterluvian 4y ago
It loads fast.
- irrational 4y ago
That’s what I noticed too. Imagine if the whole Internet loaded this fast?
  - stickfigure 4y ago
    ...and looked like this.
- userbinator 4y ago
Not a single piece of JS. Also, nearly everything is in absolutely positioned divs, leaving the browser very little to do in the way of layout.
- speed_spread 4y ago
And not a single line of JavaScript in sight.

Genius. I don't know if anyone could deliberately design this, could they? Seems to be a natural thing that an amateur coder somehow puts together. Everything on geocities was a bit like this. Makes me think of the asian "visually busy" websites like https://kakaku.com/ https://kakaku.com/
- userbinator 4y ago
<meta name="generator" content="Yahoo! SiteBuilder/2.6/1.5.0_02"> Judging by that and the content being almost entirely within absolutely positioned divs, I suspect the author just dragged and dropped all the images and text boxes whereever she thought would be a good idea, in the style of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collage https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collage .
- marginalia_nu 4y ago
Well I guess there's https://dreamcult.xyz/ https://dreamcult.xyz/ which seems to be intentionally trying to create a similar aesthetic, .
userbinator 4y ago
I recognise the title, and remember the experience --- one of those sites where you know exactly what they're trying to sell.
nwacct_324 4y ago
Here’s a website for a pizzeria in Seattle with some of the same early internet aesthetic: https://www.dinostomatopie.com/ https://www.dinostomatopie.com/
- theonething 4y ago
This is fantastic. I want to try it just because of the website. How's the pizza there?
  - uxamanda 4y ago
Delicious. They also have another pizzeria called Delancey. Dino’s is old school east coast. Delaney is thin crust Italian.
  - infinitezest 4y ago
According to their website, "our menu is actually good".
- kodt 4y ago
I love how it is responsive
- markdbullock 4y ago
  The Netscape link!
petsormeat 4y ago
It's great how the copy sustains the mood of nonsensical good cheer: "Life is rich and sweet and good and healthy like a warm, soothing, scented essential oils massage in a steamy hot~springs bath~house ~* Aspen, Alice, Alpine"

Just a note, the real thing disappeared a few years ago unfortunately, but the one I've linked is someone else's kindly archived copy from 8 April 2010.
