- boringg 4y agoAmazing - why aren't there any burritos in the rotating sandwich list? Also you should create a bunch of rotating sandwich NFTs - if you went back two years you could a millionaire off those NFT sales.
- a_shovel 4y agoTwo word title, creator's contact info, content, end. The platonic ideal of a single-purpose website. It's beautiful. The backend isn't quite so clean. It has a bunch of superfluous Wordpress template cruft, even some trackers my ad blocker had to catch. Still, I like it overall.

- cyrialize 4y agoI agree. People always talk about technicalities, ingredients, structure, etc. in this argument. For me, the main reason why a hotdog isn't a sandwich is that you can't use the two interchangeably. I would never go up to a hotdog stand and ask for a sandwich.

- kzrdude 4y agoA burrito is a calzone in the cube rule system, but I'd rather rename that class to burrito.
- entropicdrifter 4y agoAgreed. Though oddly that does qualify a corn dog as a burrito on a stick
- gen220 4y agoAll according to cube rule: Hot dogs are categorically tacos. Burritos typically begin life as a "calzone", but experience most of their brief lives through the lens of a "soup/salad in a bread bowl". Sometimes people prefer to fold a burrito into the "sushi" pattern. Depends on your mental image of a burrito.

- Buttons840 4y agoThat's a company blog I would actually follow. I want to read a 4 page post about series-c funding to capture even more rotating sandwiches. I want to read about their hiring practices and how they use scrum to organize their sandwich projects.

- medler 4y agoLauren, as a long-time follower I was excited to see this hit the front page of Hacker News. Since you’re here could you share some technical details about how this works? What kind of hardware/software stack are you using? Are you using NeRFs(?)?
- NotABigJerk 4y agoThanks for asking! I record everything on my iPhone in a lightbox on a rotating jewelry display, then pass the video through Premiere Pro for grading and framing, AfterEffects to rotoscope out the background, and then Photoshop to legacy export as a GIF.

- carlosjobim 4y agoFun fact: Some of the sandwiches seem to be rotating in the opposite direction. This is due to an optical illusion called the "Silhouette Illusion" [0], first discovered in 2003. If you focus hard on a sandwich and blur your eyes slightly, you can make it change which direction it rotates. - jon889 4y agoI can't see how this is correct. The spinning dancer works because there's no details on it.
- evan_ 4y agoI was skeptical as well but after looking into it further I can confirm that it's actually true. The brain is amazing!

- wunderlust 4y agoThe ambiguous effect of the silhouette dancer is real, but some of the sandwiches really are rotating in a different direction from the others.
- doctoboggan 4y agoI am assuming you are joking but I see other people responding as if you aren't. This isn't true as the spinning dancer illusion only works on silhouettes and not full color images.

- braingenious 4y agoTo lay this to rest: Should a tear occur such that the bread around a hot dog separates into two discrete pieces, it is then a sandwich. Therefore a hot dog is a potential sandwich in the same way that an egg is a potential chicken.

- praash 4y agoThis is a good website to demonstrate the Pulfrich effect! Squint your right eye or cover it with sunglasses, and watch the magical sandwiches pop out of your screen. I really wish online stores utilized this to convey dimensions and material texture better.
