To my mind Chomsky and Aaronson are talking about different things. Chomski says that LLMs are not AGI and they will never be it. Aaronson says LLMs may be a way to AGI. This ideas do not contradict each other. Chomsky talks that LLMs is not sufficient to create AGI, Aaronson says that LLMs is essential to create AGI. A cause can be essential but not sufficient, nothing wrong with it.
