Ask HN: Would you pay to turn ads off of a website?
- maxbaines 4y agoI do already, YouTube. And I suppose in a way Next DNS subscription, to block ads.
- sharemywin 4y agoIt costs time and money to make a website or application. what are your thoughts? I think it makes sense but I haven't really done it. I still leave ads on in youtube for instance.
- dazc 4y agoMost professionals will have a portal they access for information that is behind a paywall. The ones I know of do have some ads, mostly industry specific and fairly relevant though. Other than this, AFAIK, most other sites behind a paywall serve you as many regular ads as their free to access peers do. I guess having paying customers just isn't enough even for established and respected sites with huge traffic?
- bityard 4y agoEven very popular Youtubers make practically nothing from the ads on YouTube. Effectively that revenue goes to YouTube itself. That's why content creators have to fall back on external funding like Patreon.
- re-thc 4y agoIf only we only use 1 website. One could be visiting multiple websites all the time. Would pay to turn off ads for many websites altogether. Otherwise too many payments / accounts to be managing.
