America desperately needs percentage based fines for everything.

  Sounds similar to the flat tax argument. Are offenses similar enough that we can define the percentages (of what?) in advance? The legal system exists to evaluate the facts of each case and determine an appropriate penalty and/or remedy.

    The wealthy already have so many ways to get out of paying their taxes that a flat tax might result in them paying more. Our legal system was also created during an age where there weren’t so damn many billionaires with a net worth greater than tens of millions of average taxpayers combined.
