The libertarian/anarchist ideal of the web was doomed from day 1.
The only way forward IMHO is increased public (i.e. government) control over it. The curated, regulated corners of the internet can still thrive, with measured degree of openness. Too much abuse elsewhere.
- JohnFen 4y agoI'm talking about the web as a useful source of information and entertainment, not in terms of some libertarian/anarchist ideal. If curation is the only way that the web can retain some semblance of usefulness, that's a serious problem. It would drastically limit the usefulness of the web. Perhaps that is where this is all going. If so, I'd say that's the web being doomed. I'm just hoping for a good result instead.
- pphysch 4y agoThe internet has always been full of misinformation and entertainment, and that is unlikely to change. I think the last decade+ was in many ways a regression for the web and I am optimistic for the future
