Dianna (Physics Girl) is currently experiencing severe complications from ME/CFS/long COVID. Per the last update on her twitter:
The last weeks were scary. ER visits were hard. Dianna
still can’t walk, or even sit up in bed. But we see signs
of progress. Sleeping more. Eating more. More treatments coming.

- wetmore 4y agoUh what is this elephant you are referring to?
- short_sells_poo 4y agoSorry, what is this elephant that you speak of? There are many theories about pretty much all COVID related things. You can ascribe significance to any of them without taking ownership if you are worried about being associated with something.
- gmiller123456 4y agoI give, what is the elephant?
- archon1410 4y agoEither "the vaccine caused this" or "Long COVID isn't real". Probably the former (or both?) considering the replies made by the commenter.
- timdiggerm 4y agoIt would be great if you told us what the elephant is
- snapcaster 4y agoFor anyone curious I'm pretty sure he means the vaccine and side effects
- mardifoufs 4y agoI think it's more likely that they are questioning if long covid actually exists/isn't psychosomatic, given the context of the conversation

- zzzeek 4y agoseems a strange kind of vaccine side effect that only occurs directly after you contract the actual disease

- squeaky-clean 4y agoWell it's not a gene therapy, so...
- gus_massa 4y agoIt's a real possibility https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antibody-dependent_enhancement https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antibody-dependent_enhancement but it's one of the things that are checked in vaccine candidates before they are authorized for the general public. Quoting Wikipedia: > Prior to the pandemic, ADE was observed in animal studies of laboratory rodents with vaccines for SARS-CoV, the virus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). However, as of 27 January 2022 there have been no observed incidents with vaccines for COVID-19 in trials with nonhuman primates, in clinical trials with humans, or following the widespread use of approved vaccines.
- leidenfrost 4y agoI almost cried when I saw that video. The same way I watched science programs as a kid, then, as an adult, I'd say that I watched science videos with her, alongside other YT channels. Becoming a Patreon is the least I can do as someone on the other side of the world. I hope she can overcome long Covid and start her recovery soon.
- JshWright 4y agoI had a good friend go through the same complications (they're back to ~80% at this point, six months later). Watching that video was an eerily familiar experience...
- Erikun 4y agoTerrifying disease.
- jancsika 4y agoLong covid researchers-- is the current body of research converging on any cause(s) for the myriad long covid symptoms? Endothelial damage?

- wetmore 4y agoYour comment really rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it's the use of "mere"? It really discounts the amount of suffering ME/CFS causes people.
