It's always been easy to buy weed in Thailand tourist spots. For example, when I was in Ko Phi Phi in 2014, there was a bar called "Stoned Bar" with pre-rolled joints literally on the menu.
The problem was that it was still illegal, so there was a bunch of corruption involved with the police turning a blind eye to certain venues who paid bribes. And as a tourist you never knew if a cop might single you out for a shakedown.
I guess next up would be magic mushrooms, which are equally available at the bars on the beach ("happy smoothie").
- latchkey 4y agoThe difference is quality. Before, you'd get cheap Cambodian brick crap that was full of leaves and seeds. If you're lucky you'd find the good local stuff, but it was always more expensive. Now you get stuff that is grown locally, a lot more professionally (see the video), and the prices are going to be more reasonable for the good stuff due to more competition in the market.
