- gus_massa 4y agoMy favorite by "Certified High IQ" is > It’s interesting to me how much the GPT answers read like a bright, but credulous and untutored student in their senior year of high school trying to summarize a lot of information in an “authoritative” voice but lacking the context or critical thinking skills to demonstrate real expertise. The recommendations make no sense. 1) Water: The top comment destroys it. 2) Steam power: https://acoup.blog/2022/08/26/collections-why-no-roman-industrial-revolution/ https://acoup.blog/2022/08/26/collections-why-no-roman-indus... 3) Germ Theory: I'm sure they know to clean wounds. I'd recommend to send the recipe of penicillin instead. 4) Electricity: Static electricity has almost no practical uses. Batteries can be a good idea. They already know magnetic stones [1] and perhaps batteries [2] [3]. Anyway, electricity get's really useful when you have cheap coal for the power plants. [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_electromagnetic_theory https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_electromagnetic_the... [2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baghdad_Battery https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baghdad_Battery [3] Read the last part with the Ancient Aliens music. It is possible, but it's not clear what that device do.
- BMc2020 4y agoNot 4 sentences, but if this topic interests you, this is a good read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lest_Darkness_Fall https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lest_Darkness_Fall American archaeologist Martin Padway is visiting the Pantheon in Rome in 1938. A thunderstorm arrives, lightning cracks, and he finds himself transported to Rome in the year 535 AD. At this time, the Italian Peninsula is under the rule of the Kingdom of the Ostrogoths...Padway initially wonders whether he is dreaming or delusional, but he quickly accepts his fate and sets out to survive...He can speak both modern Italian and Classical Latin, and quickly learns enough Vulgar Latin (which was spoken at that time) to communicate effectively. Most crucially, Padway has read with great attention the book of the historian Procopius, who described the very war at whose outset Padway finds himself.
