- yodsanklai 4y agoSame thing in a lot of places unfortunately. The difference is that less visible companies don't get the rumors from the news.

- lisasays 4y agoThen again - after years of pulling down ridiculously inflated salaries, and under management that is objectively delusional - you all knew this was coming, right?
- onlyrealcuzzo 4y agoThe salaries haven't gone down yet. Stock prices always go up and down.
- hello_moto 4y agoThat last sentence is the cherry on top of "rubbing it off" to the max. I see that you're jealous...
- lisasays 4y agoNo - I'm just stating the obvious - that this is how the industry has always worked. Given how Meta has conducted itself in recent years - particularly its attempts to "pivot" - I don't see how anyone should be surprised by the multiple rounds of disgorgement it is putting itself through.
- 908B64B197 4y agoSomeone's interview didn't go well I see.
- haliskerbas 4y agoI'm jealous as well, but it's a shit time in the industry and economy to be laid off. Losing a job is tough. The affected people are likely just ICs, same as most of us here, clocking in and trying to feed their families and have a comfortable life. Let's have some empathy for each other.
- lisasays 4y agoYou're right, of course - getting laid off really hurts. Like a sucker punch right to the gut. The more we can do to detach our employment status from our feelings about ourselves (and in particular our sense of intrinsic value), therefore - despite all the negative messaging that reigns down upon us in this regard - the better.
- megaman8 4y agothose salaries aren't so inflated when you consider the cost of living over there. Want to rent a modest 2 bedroom house in palo alto? that'll be about 90K per year. After taxes, the average software engineer would be lucky to spend only 50% of their take home pay on rent. personally, i think you'd be better off making 1/3 as much in the mid-west but who wants to leave all their family and friends?

- pb7 4y agoHow are they ruining the world?
- latchkey 4y agoI'm not too worried for you though. https://twitter.com/par_dot_dev/status/1620848852508213248 https://twitter.com/par_dot_dev/status/1620848852508213248
