That is the pain of IPv6. We can do everything perfectly as an ISP and still we have to support the old stuff indefinitely. It is maddening that the IPv6 fanboys leave out this step. At what point can we stop doing both?
- wmf 4y agoThe cost of the IPv4 transition equipment ramps down over time. You may never be able to turn it off completely.
- eppp 4y agoThe cost of maintaining it doesn't. I have never read why the standards folks didn't make IPV6 a superset of IPV4 but my goodness I wish they had. I would have probably made the implementation harder at the time but it would have helped by now.
