`cargo install` is a one-shot build of a program and all of its dependencies from source; in what sense does it "update" any crates?
- nyanpasu64 4y ago`cargo install` doesn't install the locked dependency versions tested by the program author, but ignores Cargo.lock entirely and automatically updates all dependencies to the latest versions (usually semver) allowed by the Cargo.toml file.
