I can't agree with your comparison of "Jurassic Park" to "The Hunt For Red October." While you're correct that the former has speculative elements that let it flirt with science fiction, the latter is straight-up 1980s techno-thriller with a distinct lack of speculative aspects (even the Red October's caterpillar drive has real-world examples). They're very different kinds of thrillers.
- eesmith 4y agoI am woefully ignorant of the field of techno-thrillers, so I defer to your knowledge. While I did read the book back in the mid-1990s, my memory now of the caterpillar drive was the magnetohydrodynamic drive of the movie, which doesn't work like the movie suggested. Wikipedia tells me the book described "a pump-jet of the so-called "tunnel drive" type", so I fully withdraw my attempt at drawing a parallel.
