The 21st Century's Prophet of Doom Is Wrong
- simonblack 4y agoSentient beings don't have to be constructed of meat. Once sentient non-organic beings reach maturity, they will take over from humans. It's just the next rung on the ladder of progress. I doubt any of us will be around to see that. Like nuclear fusion, it'll be 'sometime in the future' for quite a while yet.
- PaulHoule 4y agoIt's more that EY is the head of a Cthulhu cult, a dangerous organization like Scientology or Heaven's Gate and is moving towards increasingly apocalyptic rhetoric. Look at how his followers have whitewashed all criticism on Wikipedia and how on lesswrong they talk him the same way Scientologists speak of L. Ron Hubbard. Journalists haven't confronted his cult for the same reason they were afraid to confront the Hubbard or LaRouche organizations. They just might slice up your cat into pieces. There was a brief window where their sugar daddy got sent home to his parents that they got talked about but in the ChatGPT age they are rampaging again with no accountability and no organized resistance.
- mintaka5 4y agoAI will never supersede humanity. we can simply stop producing technology whether that be manufacturing of hardware or programming instruction. it will only go so far as we instruct it. let it get rid of us, i dare it! it will face the same fate of humanity eventually by being unable to sustain itself.
