I'm very confused how everyone thinks this looks good?
I can only speak for myself but I find the font hard to read. The background color is very distracting (and frankly ugly). When using code highlighting the foreground colors clash horribly imho.
The icons are small and on a large monitor hard to see. This is made worse by similarity between the icon color and background.
When I see this all I can think about is John Nunemaker's statment: "But we are hackers and hackers have black terminals with green font colors!"
On the bright side I like the name, and the command line tool is neat.
- skeptical 15y agoBlack terminals with green fronts are a colorscheme optimized to the human eye. Doesn't look fancy, it goes straight to the point, which is what hacking is about in some way. People find this good looking because it looks flashy, hip, modern, elegant, it has a twitter icon, etc. I for one still don't understand why hackers care about site that look beautiful. If i can read it comfortably that's all it matters to me. But I often get comments like 'are you playing on a spectrum?' when people look at my screen.
- mapleoin 15y agoThe font is the one set by your browser. The css only says font-family: monospace. If you don't like it, then change it in your browser's settings.
- LearnYouALisp 15y agoThe problem for me is that the text is bright enough when you are typing, but becomes too dim after it is saved.
- GigabyteCoin 15y agoHow can a color be ugly? I quite enjoy it's simplicity.
- nilved 15y agoThe colour scheme is (or is based on) Solarized, a popular theme. I have no issue reading it, and find it looks incredible.
- leif 15y agoDark background and light text is much more natural for a screen. Light background and dark text works for paper, but makes no sense on a screen, it's like staring into a lightbulb.
