I want to build a tech product at some point and I've always thought one of the ways I would start promoting it would be to create high quality, ad free guides for related topics. It took me the better part of a decade to gain my knowledge and might take hundreds of hours to put together a nice set of guides.
Where's the incentive for me if some search bot is going to steal my content and give it away without the consumer even knowing I exist?
The big publishers might be able to negotiate licensing deals, but I won't and, even if I could, the value I'd get via small payments from search would be trivial compared to the value I'd get from real site visits.
Plus, from my understanding of them, the LLMs will be susceptible to SEO optimization, so if I popularize a new idea someone else is going to come along and dump money into trashy AI generated SEO tripe that "wins" the search ranking. It does nothing but accelerate the terrible path big tech has us on where a crappy product + tons of money always beats a good product + less money.
I've been enthusiastic about tech since the 90s, but I'm starting to wish I could push the delete button on Microsoft, Google, etc. I think they're making the world worse and worse for the average person year after year.
