By "Open Core" are they referring to "Open Source"?
- sebg 4y agoThe open-core model is a business model for the monetization of commercially produced open-source software. Coined by Andrew Lampitt in 2008,[1] the open-core model primarily involves offering a "core" or feature-limited version of a software product as free and open-source software, while offering "commercial" versions or add-ons as proprietary software.[2][3] From here -> https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-core_model https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-core_model
- Gigachad 4y agoOpen core is open source + proprietary add ons. Gitlab is probably the best example. There is an open source gitlab which you can use and host, but the commercial product you pay for has a whole lot of additional features which big orgs need
- wmf 4y agoAmong other problems, this article seems to be using a much broader definition of open core than everyone else. Business models like support or SaaS are not usually considered to be open core.
- userbinator 4y agoFor a moment I thought it was referring to the Hackintosh bootloader of the same name.
