This is accurate - needing to grip and push on a pen harder makes it more difficult to control and the handwriting harder to read. Most cheap ballpoints are terrible for this. I swear by Pilot G2 gel roller pens (or an off-brand equivalent, there are a few.) They glide across paper very readily and the writing comes out a lot neater as a result.
