Has VS Code won the mindset of the developer majority?
If so, why did it win you over?
- necovek 4y agoNope, because Emacs.
- eesmith 4y agoFrom the 2021 Python Developer's survey (so, only one language, self-selected survey population, and done in collaboration with JetBrains, an editor vendor), the editor breakdown was 35% VS Code, 31% PyCharm, 7% vim, ... and as many people use NotePad++ as Emacs (2%). https://lp.jetbrains.com/python-developers-survey-2021/ https://lp.jetbrains.com/python-developers-survey-2021/ In the previous year it was 33% PyCharm and 29% VS Code: https://www.jetbrains.com/lp/python-developers-survey-2020/ https://www.jetbrains.com/lp/python-developers-survey-2020/ . Even with another 6% growth for 2022, to 41%, that would still not a majority.
