Florida Republican pitches bill to ban the state Democratic Party
- jfengel 4y agoIs this literally a joke? Like, the legislative equivalent of a shitpost? Combined with the other obviously-impossible bill they were talking about (registering bloggers), it sounds as if it's just trolling season in the Florida Senate. I assume that this isn't really anything that the party leadership supports, but are they OK with this kind of posturing? If it's not a joke -- if it's something the party leadership supports, or is floating as a trial balloon indicating -- honestly, I just don't want to finish that sentence.
- Timon3 4y agoIt's terrifying that America has reached the "propose fascist laws for laughs" stage. It doesn't matter if it's supposed to be a joke, or not serious, or anything else. But that's not at all surprising given that the ex-president who immediately tried overturning an election the first chance he got is one of the two front-runners for the party whose politicians propose this...
- jfengel 4y agoThe other front runner is the subject of the bill for registering bloggers who criticize him, and has championed a lot of other ways to punish his political opponents. He also is very likely to seek to quash elections that go against him. One or the other is very likely to be the nominee. And because this behavior is very popular there a very good chance they will win the general election.
