Ask HN: How does YT do live captioning and make it look like a TV show?
I just saw on the live SpaceX docking video, the captions were appearing before the narrators even said anything.
It was subtitled like it was pre-recorded instead of the traditional letter by letter scroll.
Are they just delaying the video? Anyone know how they are doing this, technically?
- wmf 4y agoLive video tends to have 30-90 seconds of delay so it's not hard to imagine that the AI transcription can catch up or outrun the video.
- jamesdwilson 4y agoso google gets the audio early? who is delaying it?
- wmf 4y agoGoogle is causing the delay so they get everything "early".
- cypress66 4y agoThat's an insane delay. I guess it's optional, otherwise streamers wouldn't be able to interact with their chat. Twitch (which low latency mode) is like 3 seconds.
