It depends entirely on how you define vague terms like 'apocalpytic', 'imminent' etc., and nail down the discussion into specific falsifiable measurable predictions in short and specific timescales, e.g. "By 2028, will 5 million currently-existing human level-1 support jobs have been replaced by chatbots/speechbots?"
Whether you consider eliminating 100 million white-collar jobs (e.g. phone support, clerical, medical reporting, admin, HR, scheduling, travel reservations, animation, translation etc.) in the developed world to be 'apocalypse', 'growth', 'digital transformation', 'technological progress' or any other abstract noun else depends entirely on your viewpoint, politics, your day job and job security. 'apocalypse' doesn't just mean starting nuclear wars.
These discussions are all meaningless semantics until people tie them down to clear specific terms with clear measurable timescales. Which they generally won't, reducing this to salon chatter. (Does 'imminent' mean 'within the next N months?' or 'within your lifetime?')
