Half of California freed from drought thanks to rain, snow
- senttoschool 4y agoArticle is just based on drought map: https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/CurrentMap/StateDroughtMonitor.aspx?CA https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/CurrentMap/StateDroughtMonito...
- ameminator 4y agoFor now. Unfortunately, I see wildfires and other "drought-like" conditions continuing well into the future
- refurb 4y agoThis happens every year. It’s almost like California has a semi-arid climate that relies heavily on snowpack and winter rains to replace resevoirs.
- olliej 4y agoYou mean articles claiming heavy rain “filling” reservoirs fixing the drought while ignoring the continuing lack of water in the aquifers the state depends on? CA doesn’t need a storm. It needs consistent and ongoing rain and heavy snowpack every year for years. Pretending that CA isn’t in a drought because a few reservoirs got filled is stupid, and encourages the climate change denier narratives of “all the evidence of climate change is fake because magical fairy weather cycles mean god will save all of us who ignored basic science and statistics enough”
- refurb 4y agoDrought is about rainfall, not about aquifers. California almost always has drought conditions every year. But just like all weather, its not consistent year over year. Some years are drier some wetter. It’s a semi-arid climate. Talking about drought in California is like talking about snow in Canada.

- olliej 4y agoWhat no. The heavy rain has done nothing significant to refill the groundwater that makes the bulk of the CA water storage.
