CDC lab origin is consistent with geographical evidence from key Science paper
- o_nate 4y agoGarbage in, garbage out. That paper assumes that the case data made available was a complete and unbiased sample of actual Covid cases in Wuhan as of Dec. 2019. There are many good reasons to suspect that wasn't the case.
- object-a 4y agoIs there evidence that the CDC (as opposed to the WIV) was doing coronavirus research, let alone research that was closely related to SARS-CoV? The WHO report linked in this thread says that there was no storage or research of related viruses.
- albertdekker 4y agoYes that's the key question. There is no clear evidence for this, but there are things like this, from CNN: > Three sources told CNN that the Department of Energy’s shift was based in part on information about research being conducted at the Chinese Centers for Disease Control in Wuhan, China, which was studying a coronavirus variant around the time of the outbreak. > CNN has previously reported that the Chinese CDC lab in Wuhan was researching coronaviruses and bats, but it is unclear how closely related the variants being studied there were to SARS-CoV-2, the strain of the virus which spread around the world in 2020. In that context, the move and location appear very interesting to me, but it seems I haven't convinced anyone else yet ;)
