I wonder if it correlates with a /general/ loss of traffic. Personally I find the comments section to be less accepting of more classes of opinions each year.

- fnordpiglet 4y agoI categorically reject this opinion.
- plonk 4y agoI think political statements like yours should be banned from HN. This is not what this site is about.
- Jensson 4y agoWhat is political about "categorically reject"?
- version_five 4y agoThe funniest part about a thread like the above is that it's virtually impossible to tell if a given comment was made as a joke
- elif 4y agoCategorical rejection is an ideological overessentialization which seeks to create an other to function as a target of not only division and ridicule but to function normatively to buttress an existing predominant neoliberal self-narrative. </zizek>

- elif 4y agoThanks for sharing this! Grouping by year, it looks like stories peaked in 2020 but comments continued to grow. I am curious if the growth in comment count could be correlated with factors like more downvoted/hidden comments, more new comment-only reddit style users, more back and forth argument comments etc. or if it is genuinely healthy community growth.
- version_five 4y agoThat reflects what's happening in society so it shouldn't be surprising
