"News organizations and social media shouters have an incentive to show you bad news, because that’s what gets them attention and clout and/or money." Yeah, maybe there's a lot of this stuff, e.g. Vice is the major misery fetish peddler. But can't the journalists be reporting the bad news because it's actually news and needs to be reported?
