Constructive criticism - Your post would be a little easier to understand/parse if you would refrain from using “cutesy” talk - leenucks, Amigas etc. that totally hijacked my attention and distracted from the actual question.
- retrocryptid 4y agoWhoa. I get it. You're not Chicano. But sometimes people from different communities use English differently than you do.
- satvikpendem 4y agoDo people actually say leenucks instead of Linux in your community?
- retrocryptid 4y agoI don't believe there is an official pronunciation of "Linux." In Europe, "LEE-nucks" is common. In the states it seems people prefer "LIHN-ucks." Here's how Torvalds pronounces it: https://youtu.be/c39QPDTDdXU https://youtu.be/c39QPDTDdXU
- retrocryptid 4y agoI think this has been covered in HN: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1687205 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1687205 On a related note, a number of us from IBM pronounced "SQL" as "Squeal", mostly to irritate Ted Codd when he visited Almaden.
- is_true 4y agoI didn't get the Linux part til I saw your comment. Not ideal to use slangs in a international community
