Specs of Inexpensive 2023 Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet Leaked: NFC and GPS
- TheAdamist 4y agoAmazon fire tablets are always an incredible deal for what you get, around $100-150. I have weird widevine issues though, Netflix only runs in sd when it should be hd. Fine for a near disposable tablet though. Hope the new one keepa microsd, makes for a great train/plane media library.
- FeistySkink 4y agoWhat's their support life like wrt updates, etc?
- znep 4y agoGenerally somewhere between terrible and non-existent if you stick with Fire OS. They will drop occasional small patch releases with broken links to non-existent release notes.
- cf100clunk 4y agoIf you're using the Fire Toolkit you actually will probably not want FireOS updates until you've read the latests posts about how they do or do not affect your customizations.
- pooper 4y agoI like the idea of using a bigger screen device with Google Maps or some other map app for navigation during driving on older cars like say a 2007 Toyota Camry. Anyone have any thoughts on using a bigger tablet (probably mounted on some stand) compared to a phone which they'd hold in their hand?
- izacus 4y agoWell, that's what modern infotainment systems really are :) With something like Headunit Realoaded emulator app you can run it as an Android Auto screen which gets dedicated driving interface, same as you'd get on a new Auto/CarPlay equipped car.
- analog31 4y agoAre they coming out with progressively bigger ones? I must admit that 10 inch is on the small side for reading sheet music, at my age (59). I'd love to ditch the paper sheets.
- kwanbix 4y agoWe have four of them two from 2018 and two from 2021. All run Netflix in HD.
- braingenious 4y agoI got one of these a couple years ago for reading comic books and it’s been pretty great. My only gripe was having to use Fire Toolkit to get rid of all the Amazon-specific crud.
- dsr_ 4y agoYeah, but you only have to do it once. I keep mine floating over my bed; it's great for comics and pretty good for ebooks. The best upgrade would be a screen with better blacks. I have a clamp like this: https://www.amazon.com/Gooseneck-Tablet-Mount-Holder-Bed/dp/B07Y84SCR6/ https://www.amazon.com/Gooseneck-Tablet-Mount-Holder-Bed/dp/...
- cf100clunk 4y agoFire Toolkit (v30.2 as I type this) is an absolute must on recent Amazon tablets. It is a kludge, always having to readapt to Amazon's latest anti-hacking, anti-rooting whims, but it helps power users take greater control of their HD Tab in many ways. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/windows-tool-fire-toolbox-v30-2.3889604/ https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/windows-tool-fire-toolbox...
- wkat4242 4y agoSite seems down but archive.org has it: https://web.archive.org/web/20230301234550/https://tabletmonkeys.com/2023-version-fire-hd-10-leaks/ https://web.archive.org/web/20230301234550/https://tabletmon... There's not a lot of details though. As it's from the FCC it only contains details on wireless tech. Sometimes they have board shots but apparently not here. I wonder if it's worth it over a Samsung A8 though, those don't cost a lot more and have a higher resolution screen. And full Android.
- rs999gti 4y agoIs the new one going to be louder and have better night/blue light mode? These are my only cons for the Fire HD 10. Otherwise, it has been great.
- jeroenhd 4y agoWith GPS thse tablets can become excellent affordable navigation systems for (older) cars that don't have Android Auto support. Maybe needs a LineageOS image to get rid of the Amazon stuff but I'm sure that'll find its way onto the tablet eventually. No more Bluetooth GPS module (that needs another power source/battery) or finicking with settings and apps. I just hope the SoC specs are alright for the job.
- qbasic_forever 4y agoI'd love to see alternative OS' on fire tablets but so far the 2019 and beyond tablets have not been unlocked or jail broken to my knowledge. All you can do is use ADB to disable and remove a few Amazon services, side load apps, etc. I would love to be proven wrong and see a full root for fire tablet 10 2019+!
- cf100clunk 4y agoSince 2018, Amazon has locked down the bootloaders and closed off any exploits anyone could use to gain root on their HD Tablets, hence the need for the Fire Toolkit mentioned elsewhere in these comments.
- qbasic_forever 4y agoYes, fire toolkit is just a wrapper around the ADB protocol. You are not getting root or installing entirely new operating systems like lineage with it though unfortunately. The best you can do are little tweaks, you can't get a 'real' Linux system with full hardware access.
- cf100clunk 4y agoAmazon goes to great efforts to have their HD Tabs be exactly the way they want them at all times. Any steps we take to shut off telemetry, forced apps, forced ads, and other such stuff are a direct threat to their business model for the tablets. Still, the Fire Toolkit developers persist. I could accumulate all the ADB commands if I wanted, but they've done it for us in one tool kit.

- sigmar 4y ago>I saw that Amazon has decided to continue with Wi-Fi 5, which means that they are still deliberately making sure they don’t launch a flagship type of tablet that would step on the toes of Apple, Samsung, and Lenovo. ... or they're just shipping the cheapest components they can find cuz they know most people don't care about wifi6 (at the moment).
- sem000 4y agoI think you’re misjudging amazons customer base. I sincerely doubt there is are more than a handful or two of consumers that buy the Fire HD that even know there are different versions.
- TheAdamist 4y agoThe whole point of the fire tablet series is as cheap as possible while still being decent. The tech specs are always a bit behind, but its been consistently under $200(significantly under when on sale). Practically disposable at that price point. There is no Name Brand competition in their space. You can go far more expensive for higher end other known brands, or no name tablets with garbage software and no app support.
- ValentineC 4y ago> no name tablets with garbage software and no app support. I don't get it — aren't the no-name tablets using stock Android? Unless one's heavily invested in Amazon's ecosystem, I wonder if that's better than using Amazon's locked down, spyware-infested Fire tablet distro.
- goosedragons 4y agoIt's not that hard to get the Play store on a modern Fire tablet. Amazon will actually update them after release which I don't think no name ones probably do too often.
- mcsniff 4y agoI would really like to see more manufacturers adding NFC to tablets, there are almost no current generation 8" or larger devices with NFC, even the iPad lacks.
