- toast0 4y agoThat's pretty common for government shutdowns in general. Usually they're looking to disrupt communications, but not businesses. Sometimes it's just the ease of telling a limited number of companies to shut things down; leased lines especially tend to be hard to shut down in a centralized way. Of course, for India in Jammu and Kashmir, they historically only cut off prepaid cell service. If you had postpaid, you were fine. I think that may have changed with more recent shutoffs? Or maybe just the proportion of customers with postpaid has dropped; I'm not affiliated with India, just interested in global telecom because of work.

You do the same process for both and its a matter of "choosing", new sim cards are now by default pre-on-post (whatever the hell that means) so we don't understand why would they ban them and not others. pre-paid sim cards DO NOT mean the same as in american movies where you go to a store and buy a mobile phone with preloaded, pre activated sim card for $20.
