So many people here always report being underwhelmed by Duolingo whenever it comes up. It makes me wonder who are all of these people using it and paying their bills. There seems to be a pretty stark divide between the HN crowd and all the people contributing to Duolingo's revenue numbers.
- dymk 4y agoIt’s like any other mobile game. People spend a few bucks here and there on it, and they make up for it in volume.
- lolinder 4y agoMy wife is one of them, on a family plan with her brother. She repeatedly complains about how bad DL is getting, but keeps up her streak because she's got 4+ years and so does her brother. She's got other language apps she actually learns from, but feels like Duolingo is basically worthless and only keeps it up because she can't bear to lose the streak.
