By the way, is it just me or spoken Japanese was so much easier than spoken Spanish? It was just so hard for me to understand what a Spanish speaker says even though I had no problem reading the same content. Yet somehow it was much easier to understand spoken Japanese.
- gaogao 4y agoWagering a guess, are you exposed to way more spoken Japanese media through anime than you are spoken Spanish content?
- hintymad 4y agoNot really. In fact, I mostly watch dubbed animes, as I can't stand Japanese style of shouting and yelling in those animes.

There are fewer and clearer rules and they are made very explicit by the usage of particles marking every part of speech. The phonetics are quite simple too, not too many weird sounds. The lexicon might be a bit hard once you try to express nuances, but spoken Japanese must be one of the easiest languages to get started with.
- dymk 4y agoTo get started with yes, but the grammar has plenty of irregularities at the “normal everyday speech” level
