L.A.’S Scoring System Gives Those Experiencing Homelessness Lower Priority Score

- Khelavaster 4y agoPretty sure this is because black people experiencing more of these markers get arrested and incarcerated at much higher rates..
- OscarCunningham 4y agoThe HN title is messed up. The scores are to prioritise housing, so everyone being scored is homeless. The original title is "L.A.'s Scoring System for Subsidized Housing Gives Black and Latino People Experiencing Homelessness Lower Priority Scores".
- everforward 4y agoThis doesn't seem to affect outcomes, so it doesn't seem like a huge issue to me. From the linked report [1], 31% of the Black homeless population is sheltered and only 24% of the non-Black homeless population is sheltered. I.e. despite receiving lower scores, Black people are more likely to be sheltered. Within the narrow confines of shelter, equity would seem to demand the opposite of what they're going for. 1: https://www.lahsa.org/documents?id=2823-report-and-recommendations-of-the-ad-hoc-committee-on-black-people-experiencing-homelessness https://www.lahsa.org/documents?id=2823-report-and-recommend... page 16
