Mastodon: This Instance Is Under Maintenance
- johnklos 4y agoKeeping a Ruby environment happy is not trivial. Anything which is considered production really should have two separate environments - one that works, and one that is being used to test updates. Only when the test one is verified to work should it be used. I've made that mistake, and I think many admins of Mastodon are learning the hard way.
- app4soft 4y agoIs it possible for Mastodon user to keep posting into own account (on original instance) via other instance, while original instance is under maintenance?
- johnklos 4y agoBoth instances can communicate with the PostgreSQL database, even at the same time, and upgrades would just happen to one, so if / when there are issues, there'd still always be at least one working. End users generally wouldn't have any involvement in choosing instances. Since the instances themselves don't store your account data, you'd be able to post regardless of which instance it is.
