iMessage succeeded because the iPhone maintained market share. BBM failed because people stopped buying Blackberries.
I don't think any of iMessage's unique features materialy contributed to it's success.
- TSUTiger 4y agoSimilarly to the iPhone (and Android) dethroning Blackberry, will there be a new "iPhone" -- and will we finally see iMessage on Windows/Android by then?
- Kab1r 4y agoApple's grip on the messaging space is pretty tight but I have hopes that the EU's DMA regulation will force to loosen it's grip. I've been using iMessage on Android, desktop and the web using Mautrix-iMessage and Beeper for a while now.
