Show HN: a MacOS GUI app under 700KB
- graderjs 4y agoI like that I used a retro icon for this. If anyone can guess where it's from? Would love feedback on the encryption choice: AES-GCM 256 with the password hashed with SHA256 to generate the key. The implementation is using CryptoKit^1. Language is Swift, UI is Cocoa. The download size is very small (< 1MB). Everything is offline. NOthing is sent to any server. Output of CryptoKit is converted to base64 and prefixed with SNOW*1.0**** that way we can have a single button for decrypt and encrypt. Snow is supposed to stand for: Secure Note Object Wrapper for professionalism, haha. I love how simple it is. This is the second app I've put on the app store. MacOS app making is a lot of fun. ^1: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/cryptokit/ https://developer.apple.com/documentation/cryptokit/
- KomoD 4y ago> a MacOS GUI app under 700KB Is that uncommon for MacOS?
- graderjs 4y agoActually I don’t know. I just thought it was kind of cool. Many of the apps I see on App Store are at least a few megabytes. Many are dozens, some are hundreds. So I thought under 700 KB something functional and useful is good.
