Yes I believe you can. The gov't in Russia is primarily organized as a Mafia. The person at the top extracts payments from all the lieutenants who extract money from the populace and keep a percentage for themselves. [1] The Russian gov't has primarily done that by extracting resources from Russian and selling them abroad. The oligarchs (lieutenants) that run the extraction businesses get their cut and pay the Mafia head. If they fail to pay or cross the Mafia head they fall out a window. [2][3] [there are several more] A Mafia does not actually produce anything - so in order to expand it needs new territory to exploit. Ukraine produces %10 of the world's grain and controls access to the black sea where oil is produced. This is Russia's only deep water port that remains unfrozen year around and is where it also exports oil. [4] Some of the problems with a Mafia style organization is the boss rarely likes to be told they are wrong and the lieutenants get greedy. [watch Sopranos] This becomes evident in the Ukraine conflict because Putin was told that taking over Ukraine would be easy (not). And the military was totally under prepared because corruption had sabotaged the military upgrades that Putin thought were (not) happening. Add to that a US President giving the impression the US would not do anything if Ukraine where invaded and you get a war. IMHO That is how Ukraine got into a war with Russia in a Nutshell - Soon to be published by O'Reilly Books [1] https://imrussia.org/en/opinions/3067-the-result-of-20-years-of-putin-russia-as-a-mafia-state https://imrussia.org/en/opinions/3067-the-result-of-20-years...
