Can Black Holes Create Dark Energy?
- PaulHoule 4y agoI don't believe the classical picture of black holes interiors is all true in terms of quantum mechanics but it doesn't matter because I'm sure that they look the same on the outside. Specifically, what goes into a black hole stays inside the black hole, with the exception that it gets turned into Hawking radiation over a very long time which for stellar or supermassive black holes is like waiting for protons to decay but longer. It makes me think though of many sci-fi novels of the 1970s and 1980s where aliens made various attempts to change the evolution of the universe by messing around with black holes such as The Second Experiment by J.O. Jeppson and the Heechee books by Fred Pohl not to mention Firebird by Charles L. Harness. I think people back then felt strongly about the possibility of the universe being open or closed but the scientific consensus became that it was open in the 1980s, around the time that inflation became fashionable. (Even though from the viewpoint of quantum gravity there is reason to think the state space of the universe is finite and that after some unfathomable time, much longer than the time for black holes to evaporate, somehow it will come back to this moment.)
