I agree with you. A cheap drip coffee machine (sometimes an actual Mr. Coffee) is what I typically find at airbnb or vacation rentals, etc., and it makes me perfectly happy. At home, I have what should be considered "the cadillac" of these type of makers - the Technivorm Moccamaster - and I feel squarely on the correct side of diminishing marginal returns (especially given the relatively low price).
