ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” is a song about death
- anonymouskimmer 4y agoEven in an immortal species the passing of time would exist. Epochs would move on. The song may be about time passing, but death doesn't have to factor in (yet). Edit to add: You only ever have one first time for anything.
- jfengel 4y agoIndeed. Even viewed that way, it's about aging and disability rather than death. Still, I think they're missing the point of ABBA's catalog. It's about being alive despite the pain. This song celebrates youth, and doesn't want its subject to know about hardship. The divorce songs have an uplifting groove to get you through the hard parts of life. It does show a bit more to ABBA than just disco shallowness. But it doesn't have to be about goth depression to be deep.
- anonymouskimmer 4y ago> it doesn't have to be about goth depression to be deep. ABBA wouldn't have had the hits they did if they weren't ~deep~ real.
