I love how it's framed as destructive to the "lead generation industry".
it is nuts how salespeople view themselves. they're the heroes who drive business, they're the backbone of the economy, etc.
anyone negatively impacted by the banning of online consent forms is doing shady shit in the first place.
- A4ET8a8uTh0 4y agoI hear what you are saying, but with regards to: << they're the backbone of the economy In US selling is absolutely the backbone of the economy. Granted, it is often selling crap and/or bs, but it is still selling. All that said, 'lead generation industry' is not sales. Sales is people who use those leads. I just want to make sure we are clear on the distinction.
- xbar 4y agoRight. Selling is selling. This guy and his mantra for saving the "leads generation industry" is comedy. Or marketing. I'm not sure which.
- klabb3 4y ago> In US selling is absolutely the backbone of the economy. Just because harassment is involved in much of our economic transactions doesn’t mean that people wouldn’t buy stuff in a world without harassment. It’s just like cutting in line: all it does is change who gets first (for the worse), it doesn’t impact the flow of traffic overall.
- naikrovek 4y ago> In US selling is absolutely the backbone of the economy. you're right; I forgot that it is impossible for money to change hands without a salesman in there somewhere.
- Spivak 4y agoI mean sales and marketing at every company I've ever worked is who is paying my salary at the end of the day so I find it hard to disparage them, they're the garbage men and women who turn stuff I build into dollars.
- rqtwteye 4y agoThere are straightforward and transparent ways to do sales. Or you can be shady.
- whstl 4y agoNot to mention that bad actors pretty much force the hand of the good ones to be more aggressive or use the same methods, or else they suffer with less sales. There are no downsides to killing the bad actors here.
- xbar 4y agoMarketing needs to generate leads and sales needs to sell. But the idea that regulating spam calls and online consent transfer is the leads apocalypse is laughable.
- JohnFen 4y ago> they're the heroes who drive business Here's a thing about people -- we all consider ourselves the heroes of our own stories. It's just human nature.
