In 1982 my mom wrote an article for “Redbook” magazine about how my Dad’s snoring kept her awake. It was a funny 1000 words and they paid her $400 for it. They even sent a professional photographer to our house and had my Dad lay down with a cartoon zzzzz to show the snoring and my mom made a home alone shocked face for the photo. My kids asked about that photo recently and I explain “well back in 1982 you could earn money for writing words. But today her story about snoring would just be a free blog article.” The days of making money writing might be over.
- sebg 4y agoThat's a great story! $400 dollars for an article was a great deal back then (when gas was less than $1.00 a gallon in the US). > The days of making money writing might be over. Maybe. Though I'm hoping not! Hopefully I'm able to figure it out :)
