- PaulHoule 4y ago10 years ago I knew many people in upstate NY were installing ground source heat pumps and even back then you often had to wait a few years to find somebody who could drill the holes for the ground loop but generally people were happy with the performance after they'd made the investment. Today there is a lot of talk about air source heat pumps for cold climates but I also hear a lot of stories about failed installations.
